THE WINTER PARK DAWGS

In September 1999, four runners, now known as A-Dawg, Daddy Roo, Doc and Princess started training together in preparation for that year's OUC Half Marathon.  After they ran the OUC, the four athletes continued to train and socialize together.  Gradually at first, other runners joined the group, which had become the Winter Park Dawgs, but it was not until 2001, when 15 new runners joined the team that the Dawgs really took off. As of September 2006, the Dawgs number 87 runners , all committed to both improving their personal fitness and developing new friends.

Membership in the Dawgs is open to runners of all abilities, including beginners.  While there are no dues, prospective Dawgs, known initially as Wannabes, must complete a minimum participation requirement.

Runs start at 8:45AM on Tuesday and Thursday, usually from the Winter Park YMCA, although some runs are held at Showalter Track and the Glenridge Hills area.  A Dawg Journal is published after each workout in an effort to organize and coordinate the training and social activities of the Dawgs.
